Diary of a Real Bride – We’re engaged!!
By Ally, Bride to Be – getting married on Saturday 18th October 2014
From the minute you scream ‘yes!’ back at your startled yet relieved and joyful ‘now-Fiancé,’ you are flying through the clouds of pure giddy joy and happiness. My beautiful Fiancé had picked the perfect time, place and ring (emerald-my favourite!) for his proposal and I didn’t think it could get any better than this. After telling everyone through high-pitched excitement (that only probably dolphins could hear!), and attending the wonderful rounds of engagement drinks with excited loved ones, there comes a moment when it hits you; you are getting married and you need to start planning your wedding!
Of course many girls will tell you they have been planning their wedding since they were a little lady, but really we may have often thought about what we would like our dream day to be, but in reality this can be very tricky to get right. I always had a very specific idea of what I wanted in terms of theme, colour scheme, bridesmaid’s dresses, music, lighting, favours, cake and venue dressing. But when I actually sat down to begin with all the best intentions, if I’m honest, I was totally overwhelmed and unprepared for exactly how much work, time and energy it takes to turn the dream wedding in your head into a reality! So I started planning by taking it a day at a time, but soon I felt quite lost. How would we choose a venue when there were hundreds popping up every time I did a search? How would I choose my entertainment when there were thousands to choose from and they all seemed exactly the same?
I have a full time job also, and between that, seeing friends and family, taking care of the house and our dog, we just didn’t have any time to sit and go through a million choices for each element of the wedding. It got so much for me that I started to see this beautiful event in our lives as something stressful and negative, which was the completely wrong way to think about your wedding!
I hadn’t even thought about a wedding planner before, I had seen them in films or thought they were a luxury for the super rich, but it wasn’t until I started researching them that I found that for a very reasonable price I could pass over the stress and organisation of my wedding and work with someone who is an expert in weddings, knows the right place to start, the right questions to ask and gets your wedding in for the right budget. Now I know I couldn’t do it without my wedding planner, and my Fiancé and I can get on with enjoying the lead up to our wedding and enjoy it the way any couple should; with the love and excitement of joining together.
