Centrepieces – what’s your wedding style?

pem 5Dorchester Wedding - Pem 1pem 8Centrepieces – there is no right or wrong answer when thinking about what you want or what style you’d like for your special day. The main factors that usually determine style & decision are your venue and colour scheme or theme. You should always try and work with the décor of your chosen venue, that way you will have maximum impact when your guests walk into the room and say ‘WOW’! For example, if your venue has high ceilings, make sure to use height in your centres, tall vases or candelabras. If your venue is traditional and has lots of character or features perhaps take the ‘less is more’ approach and go with something more subtle blending into the colours of the room.

Or if your venue is neutral you can use it as a blank canvas to pour whatever colours and inspiration you have into the space. For rooms that are creams & whites any colour scheme will work, you could go for 1 bold colour like ruby red or royal blue to really lift the space and make the colour & room ‘pop’ with energy. Alternatively you could use a palette of pastel shades like pale pinks or lilacs to give a more romantic and delicate atmosphere.

Think about asking your florist – what flowers are in season and will be available to you so you know what you have to work with. Also, this will save you any upset if the flowers you love are out of season or not available, and it can also make a huge difference to your floral costs!

Popular Spring/Summer flowers = Cherry Blossom, Cornflower, Chrysanthemum, Carnation, Freesia, Hyacinth, Hydrangea, Lily, Rose, Sunflower, Sweet Pea, Peony

Popular Autumn/Winter flowers = Agapanthus, Calla Lily, Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Gerbera, Hydrangea, Iris, Lilac, Marigold, Phalaenopsis orchid, Rose, Sunflower

If you are looking for something a bit different, there are also many beautiful alternatives to floral table centres, for example using light & candles to stunning effects. You could use candelabras or candle sticks with tealights all around them, mini trees or even beautiful crystal trees, decorated birdcages, feathers in decorative vases – the possibilities are truly endless and let your imagination run wild with your own ideas of what you love. You want to try and reflect yourselves in everything on your most special day so that all your guests think of you when they see anything!
