Weddings in the Shire – A very special wedding location in Middle Earth
With the release of the final Hobbit film on the 12th December, we thought we’d give you a little wedding inspiration…Middle Earth style! For all of you Lord of the Rings & Hobbit fans – did you know that you can get married and celebrate your wedding in The Shire?
Hobbiton is a location like no other, creating a unique and memorable experience for your special day. Such a beautiful and iconic place situated in Matamata, New Zealand with breath-taking scenery and views. You could have your wedding ceremony amongst their lovely gardens which are surrounded by some most impressive Hobbit holes. Or by the Party Tree and lake for an even more spectacular backdrop with a glass of bubbly – or perhaps a pint of Southfarthing’s finest!
They also have two fabulous venues that you can hold your reception in – why not have your wedding breakfast in the exquisitely crafted Green Dragon (as seen in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies). And then move onto their party marquee, created in the same style as the unique canvas marquee seen in The Fellowship of the Ring to dance the night away under the stars. The team at Hobbiton can work with every couple to tailor your big day and make it an occasion to remember for you and all your guests – you can even have your photos taken outside Bag End!
For your Bride style, why not choose a flower embellished wedding dress – take a look at Claire Pettibone’s beautiful collection for inspiration – we particularly love her ‘Flora’ dress! And then carry on the theme with flowers in your hair, a wild flower bouquet and floral accessories. And for the Groom, you could have custom made 3 piece tweed suit with a wild flower & herb buttonhole.
And for a little help with theming – you could use lots of colourful wild flowers & lanterns in your décor for the tables and around the party marquee. Perhaps name your tables after places in Middle Earth like The Shire, Lothlórien & Gondor, and have your stationary all designed like a map. You could even give your guests their very own piece of Smaug’s treasure from the lonely mountain as their favour and keepsake from the fantastic day! It’s a truly unique and special place, and definitely an experience and a day everyone will not soon forget.
